Botox treatment uses injections of botulinum toxin type A to temporarily relax selected muscles. This smooths expression lines on the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes, and reduces sweating in hyperhidrosis. At UKRMED Cosmetology, the treatment is performed by Nataliia Tarhonska, a periodontist and cosmetologist, who plans the injection points after studying your facial expressions rather than following a template.

The doctor will assess your expressions, choose the areas and number of units, and give you the price before treatment.
An expression line forms where a muscle has folded the skin in the same place for years. The medicine blocks the signal from nerve to muscle, so the muscle contracts less and the skin above gradually smooths out. According to the BOTOX Cosmetic prescribing information, chemical denervation begins one to two days after injection, a visible result develops over the following days, and the effect lasts approximately three to four months. Nerve-muscle signalling then recovers and movement returns.
Botulinum toxin does not fill a crease or add volume — that is what fillers do. If a line is deep and visible at rest, injections will soften it but not erase it, and the doctor may suggest a combined plan — for example, with biorevitalisation or mesotherapy to improve skin quality.
"Botox" is the everyday name for the procedure, but BOTOX is just one brand. All three products contain botulinum toxin type A, yet they differ in formulation and manufacturing:
| Product | Active substance |
|---|---|
| Botox | onabotulinumtoxinA |
| Dysport | abobotulinumtoxinA |
| Xeomin | incobotulinumtoxinA |
Their units cannot be compared or converted: the BOTOX Cosmetic label states that its units of biological activity cannot be compared to or converted into units of any other botulinum toxin product. So "how many units" only makes sense together with the product name. Ask which product is available at the clinic when you book.
Most treatments focus on the upper face, where lines are most closely linked to expression:
Label doses are a guide for average anatomy. The doctor adjusts them for muscle strength, brow position and your experience with earlier injections. Botox for wrinkles should keep your expressions natural, not freeze the face.
For excessive sweating, the medicine is injected into the skin rather than a muscle, where it temporarily blocks the signal to the sweat glands. Underarm botox is the most common treatment; palms and soles are treated less often. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, most patients notice less sweating within 7 to 10 days, and results in the underarms and hands last 3 to 10 months.
If sweating started suddenly, is worse at night or affects the whole body, the cause should be found first — an illness, hormonal changes or medication. Botox for excessive sweating should not mask an undiagnosed condition.

The treatment takes 15–30 minutes, and you can return to your usual activities afterwards. The BOTOX Cosmetic label notes that the safety of dosing more often than every three months has not been studied, so repeat treatments are planned at least three months apart.
Before treatment, tell the doctor about all medicines, including aspirin and other painkillers, blood thinners, vitamins, herbs and supplements — some of them increase the risk of bruising. Do not stop prescribed medication on your own. Let the doctor know if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy.
After the injections, the American Academy of Dermatology advises:
If a bruise appears, it usually fades in about a week.
Treatment is not carried out if there is an infection at the injection site or an allergy to the product. It is postponed during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Tell the doctor about any neuromuscular condition, difficulty swallowing or breathing, recent surgery and all medicines you take, including antibiotics and muscle relaxants.
Afterwards, a small bruise, tenderness at the injection site, headache, temporary asymmetry or a drooping eyelid may occur. The BOTOX Cosmetic label warns that the effect of botulinum toxin may spread beyond the injection area, with symptoms appearing hours to weeks after treatment. If you have difficulty speaking, swallowing or breathing, seek medical help immediately.
The cost depends on the areas and number of units. The doctor confirms it before treatment.

The product starts working in one to two days, and visible changes appear during the first week. The doctor assesses the final result at the follow-up visit.
For expression lines, about three to four months. For excessive sweating in the underarms and palms, 3 to 10 months.
No more often than every three months: more frequent dosing has not been studied.
The injections are made with a very fine needle, so you feel only a brief prick. Hyperhidrosis treatment involves more points, and the doctor may offer pain relief.
They are different botulinum toxin type A products, each with its own manufacturing technology. Their units are not interchangeable, so the dose is always calculated for the specific product.
Yes, but the doctor decides the order and the interval between treatments. They are often done on different days.
