Facial Cleansing in Kyiv

A professional facial cleansing deep-cleans the pores of blackheads, closed comedones and excess sebum in a way that cannot be repeated at home. At UKRMED Cosmetology, the treatment is carried out by cosmetologist Nataliia Tarhonska: she first assesses your skin type and condition, then chooses the combination of methods and finishing care.

What professional facial cleansing involves

Pores become clogged with sebum, dead cells and dust. This forms open comedones — blackheads — and closed ones, small white bumps under the skin. Everyday washing removes only surface dirt. A pore cleansing treatment clears the pores deeply, evens out the texture and prepares the skin for active skincare.

The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) warns that squeezing pimples and comedones yourself prolongs inflammation and increases the risk of scars and dark spots. That is why extraction is best left to a professional who works in sterile conditions and controls the pressure.

Types of cleansing

Ultrasonic facial cleansing

An ultrasonic spatula vibrates at high frequency and gently washes out debris and dead cells from the pores. The skin barely reddens, so this step suits sensitive and thin skin.

Mechanical facial cleansing

The cosmetologist removes dense comedones by hand with sterile instruments where ultrasound is not enough. It is the most effective method when pores are heavily clogged.

Combined cleansing

Both methods together: ultrasound cleans the whole surface, and only problem areas are treated mechanically. The result is a deep facial cleansing without unnecessary trauma. At UKRMED, combined cleansing is completed with:

• a soothing mask for your skin type;
• a superficial peel (salicylic, azelaic, lactic);
• the PRX-T33 dermal stimulator;
• a BioRePeel peel.

Who it is for

• oily and combination skin with enlarged pores;
• a facial for blackheads and closed comedones;
• a facial for acne in its mild stage, without active pustular inflammation;
• a facial for oily skin with dull tone and uneven texture;
• preparing the skin for other treatments.

With marked inflammatory acne, cleansing does not treat the cause — medical treatment and home therapy are needed. Post-acne marks are corrected by other methods: plasma therapy, biorepair injections or device-based cosmetology.

The procedure

1. Consultation. The cosmetologist asks about your skincare, medicines (including retinoids), recent peels and injections.
2. Make-up removal and cleansing. The skin is cleansed and gently steamed or softened with a special gel.
3. Ultrasonic cleansing.
4. Mechanical extraction in problem areas.
5. Peel or stimulator, as planned.
6. Soothing mask and protective cream.

The treatment takes about one to one and a half hours.

Contraindications

Cleansing is postponed during acute inflammation, an active cold sore, broken skin, or a flare of dermatitis or rosacea. Tell the cosmetologist if you take or have recently taken isotretinoin, or use retinol, acids or benzoyl peroxide — the specialist will decide which methods are safe. During pregnancy, gentle protocols without aggressive acids are used.

Aftercare

• no make-up for 12 hours;
• avoid saunas, pools and intense exercise for two to three days;
• do not touch your face;
• use sunscreen every day — the AAD stresses that after peels it helps maintain the result;
• wash with a gentle cleanser up to twice a day and choose non-comedogenic products.

Slight redness fades within hours; after a peel, flaking may last a few days.

When a facial will not help

• Moderate to severe inflammatory acne. A facial removes comedones but does not treat inflammation. Dermatological treatment comes first, with facials as a supplement.
• Rosacea. Manual extraction and heat worsen redness, so gentle care is chosen.
• Enlarged pores. Pores look smaller after a facial, but the effect is temporary: pore size is determined by genetics and skin type.

How often to have a facial

Oily skin usually needs cleansing every one to two months; normal and combination skin every two to three months. More often is unnecessary: over-cleansing damages the skin barrier. The AAD recommends superficial peels as a course of 3–5 sessions two to five weeks apart.

Facials for different skin types

• Oily and combination skin — more frequent cleansing with a salicylic peel that dissolves sebum in the pores.
• Dry and sensitive skin — gentle ultrasonic cleansing without aggressive acids, minimal extraction and a soothing mask.
• Rosacea-prone skin — cleansing is done very carefully or replaced with soothing care; during a flare, dermatological treatment comes first.
• Mature skin — cleansing is combined with the PRX-T33 or BioRePeel stimulators to even out texture and tone.

Back cleansing follows the same principles if there are comedones and breakouts.

Possible reactions and complications

• Redness and mild swelling — a normal reaction that settles within hours, or up to one to two days after manual extraction.
• Tiny bruises where comedones were removed — they fade in a few days.
• New spots in the first days — pore contents can come to the surface. If there are many or they are painful, see the cosmetologist.
• Pigmentation — the risk is higher in darker skin and with sun exposure right after the treatment, so SPF is essential.
• Cold sore flare-up — tell the cosmetologist in advance if you get them often.
• Infection and scarring — rare, mostly after squeezing at home or poor aftercare.

How to prepare

• Avoid tanning and home peels for a week before.
• Stop retinoids and acids a few days before — the cosmetologist will tell you exactly when.
• Come without make-up or remove it at the clinic.
• Do not schedule a facial right before an important event: skin needs a day or two to calm down.
