Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid. It works as an "eraser" for hyaluronic acid fillers: it helps remove excess volume, asymmetry, migrated gel or lumps after an unsuccessful lip or facial correction. At UKRMED Cosmetology, the treatment is carried out by cosmetologist Nataliia Tarhonska after an examination and a check of which product was injected and when.

The doctor will assess your tissues and explain whether dissolving is needed and how much.
Most lip and facial fillers are made of cross-linked hyaluronic acid. The enzyme breaks its molecules apart, and the body clears the remnants naturally. The effect is visible within a day, and the final result once swelling subsides.
Important: the enzyme works only on hyaluronic acid fillers. Calcium hydroxylapatite products (Radiesse), poly-L-lactic acid and permanent fillers are not dissolved. If you do not know the product name, tell the doctor — filler type cannot be judged by eye.
The most common request is dissolving lip filler after over-augmentation or gel migration. Removal can be partial — only the excess in one area — or complete. If filler was injected several times, a staged approach may be needed. Once the tissues recover, usually after a few weeks, a subtle lip filler treatment can be planned again.
A 2021 UK expert guideline on the safe use of hyaluronidase stresses that the enzyme is usually well tolerated, but allergic reactions are possible. The risk is higher in people allergic to wasp and bee stings, so be sure to tell the doctor. A skin test can be done beforehand if needed.
A separate guideline by the same authors on vascular complications of fillers recommends giving hyaluronidase as soon as possible and in a sufficient dose if a blocked vessel is suspected. That is why every doctor who uses fillers must keep the enzyme on hand.

Swelling, redness and tenderness may last one to two days. Do not massage your lips or try to "spread" the product. Resume exercise, saunas, facial massage and new injections as the doctor advises. If pain or swelling increases or the skin changes colour, contact the doctor immediately.
Allergy to hyaluronidase, acute inflammation or infection in the area, pregnancy and breastfeeding (except emergencies — the doctor decides).
Contact a doctor immediately if, after a filler treatment, you notice:
This is an emergency. The guideline on vascular occlusion recommends giving hyaluronidase as soon as possible and in a sufficient dose — the outcome depends on speed.
The most common causes are too much volume in one session, the wrong product for the area, injection that is too superficial, and repeated top-ups without accounting for leftover gel. That is why it is important to know what was injected and when before any new treatment.

Book an examination — the doctor will suggest a gentle solution.
Yes, if it is hyaluronic acid filler. Gel remnants can persist longer than expected, and the enzyme breaks them down.
Yes, with an examination and a check for allergies. Temporary swelling and redness are possible; allergic reactions are rare.
Hyaluronic acid filler will, though several sessions are sometimes needed. Other filler types are not dissolved.
The enzyme acts on hyaluronic acid, and your own quickly recovers, so the natural volume of your lips does not decrease.
Usually after two to four weeks, once swelling has fully subsided.
