Chin Liposuction in Kyiv

Liposuction is the surgical removal of localised fat through a thin cannula to reshape a contour. At UKRMED Plastic Surgery, we perform chin liposuction — correcting a double chin and the jawline — as well as outpatient surgery: removal of lipomas, atheromas and other lesions. The surgeon draws up the plan after an examination.

Chin liposuction: when it helps

A double chin can persist even at a normal weight: fat under the chin responds poorly to diet and exercise. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) notes that the ideal liposuction candidate has a normal weight, localised fat deposits and firm, elastic skin. The face, chin and neck are typical treatment areas.

It is important to understand the limits:

• liposuction does not treat obesity and is not a way to lose weight;
• it does not remove loose excess skin;
• if the double chin is caused by a receding chin rather than fat, chin surgery may be needed;
• with marked skin laxity, other methods are considered, and for a sharper jawline without surgery — Radiesse.

Surgeon consultation

The surgeon examines the face from the front and in profile and assesses fat thickness, skin elasticity and the position of the chin and jaw. Bring a list of medicines and mention allergies, illnesses, previous operations and smoking. Do not stop blood thinners on your own.

The procedure

1. Marking and skin preparation.
2. Local anaesthesia with tumescent solution, which reduces bleeding and pain.
3. A thin cannula is inserted through one or two punctures under the chin or behind the ears, and fat is removed evenly.
4. The punctures are closed and a compression garment is applied.

The operation takes about an hour and is done as an outpatient procedure.

Recovery

Swelling, bruising, firmness and temporary numbness are possible in the first days. The compression garment is worn as the surgeon directs — it helps the skin contract and reduces swelling. Most swelling settles in two to three weeks, and the final contour forms over several months. Massage, sauna and exercise resume only with the doctor's permission.

Contact the clinic if pain increases, swelling grows, a puncture discharges or you develop a fever.

Contraindications

Acute infections, skin inflammation in the area, pregnancy and breastfeeding, bleeding disorders and uncontrolled chronic illnesses.

Outpatient surgery: lipomas, atheromas and lesions

Not every lump under the skin is fat for liposuction.

• Lipoma — a benign encapsulated fatty tumour. Lipoma removal is surgical, together with the capsule, so it does not return. Liposuction is not suitable here.
• Atheroma (epidermoid cyst) — a cavity filled with keratin under the skin. Atheroma removal includes the cyst wall, because otherwise it often recurs. Do not squeeze it yourself: this provokes inflammation.
• Oral mucosal lesions — removed and sent for tissue examination; more complex cases are handled by maxillofacial surgery.
• Punch biopsy — a round instrument takes a small full-thickness sample of skin for histology when a diagnosis is needed.

Lipomas and atheromas are removed under local anaesthesia with cosmetic suturing to keep the scar as fine as possible, and if a mark remains, scar correction can help. The removed tissue is sent for histology if needed.
